UPDATE: It seems the entire countdown site was a big hoax. According to a post by Joystiq, Activision isn't behind the site.
"There seems to a great deal of speculation about the next Call of Duty project," said an Activision spokesperson. "Let me be clear that we are not revealing yet. Anything indicating otherwise is a hoax."
ORIGINAL STORY: Who here doesn't like a good teaser website? It leads to wild speculation as to what it is counting down to.
If you head over to findmakarov.com, you will see a countdown that is scheduled to end just a bit over four days time. What is it going to reveal? Well, that is what the wild speculation is for.
As you may recall, Vladimir Makarov was a particularly bad person in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. He was the guy who orchestrated the vicious Russian airport massacre; a level that caused a bit of controversy for the game. He also shot your character and left you to take the blame for the attack and gave way for the Russian military to invade the United States. Basically he was the catalyst for the entire story portion of the game.
Judging from the font of the numbers, it bears a resemblance to numbers in the Modern Warfare franchise and from the name of the URL, it seems the next title will revolve around the player finding the sneaky Makarov.
So what do you think? Is this truly the next Modern Warfare title or something different all together? Well in just over four days, we will have our answer.
