Tokyo Jungle, Sony's, uh, idiosyncratic survival action game, is coming westward.

In an interview with Joystiq, Sony VP of product development and worldwide studios Scott Rohde confirmed that the game would be coming to North America and Europe. He also added that while the game may not be for everyone, "there's a whole bunch of people it's gonna make really happy. Specifically for the fact that it's so different, and so unexpected."

Calling Tokyo Jungle "different" may be one of the year's biggest understatements. Screenshots from the game reveal situations like dogs fighting alligators, and the ability to outfit pigs with Loco Roco characters. Wikipedia's description of the game reads like some sort of weird fever dream, with phrases like "A Pomeranian dog and thoroughbred racehorse are key characters in the story." and "Animals confirmed for Tokyo Jungle include lion, crocodile, tiger, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, chimpanzee, gazelle, chicken, beagle, tyrannosaurus, hyena, and fox." Even knowing those things going in, however, may not prepare you for watching a gameplay video.

No word yet on release date, but it's probably no stretch to say that the game will be one of the weirdest things you see all year, regardless of when it comes out.
