Square Enix announced yesterday that they're bringing Nintendo DS classic The World Ends With You to iOS devices...today.
The news -- and release -- comes less than a week after they first launched a countdown site teasing something to do with TWEWY. Thanks to sleuthing by Andriasang/a screw-up by Square Enix themselves late last week, it was known that the announcement would have something to do with iDevices, but it was only yesterday that the company fully released details about the port.
The iOS version will modify the original's combat system, adapting it to work on single screens. The game will also feature an expanded online component; whereas the DS original featured only the ability to play a minigame wirelessly against others, this time around players will also be able to trade friend cards, and, in Square Enix's words, "Tweetify Shibuya".
Of course, seeing as this is Square Enix, the game will cost significantly more than your typical iOS game: $18 for the iPhone/iPod version, and $20 for the iPad one. Not quite as much as the upcoming Final Fantasy Dimensions -- which releases later this week for nearly $30 -- but still well above the Apple App Store's usual 99 cent fare.
