Thanks to the recent earthquake in Japan, you may have to wait until 2012 to get your hands on your own NGP handheld.
SCEA president Jack Tretton told Bloomberg, "It may be the straw that says 'maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year.'" As a result Sony may decide to release the NGP in just one territory to ensure that at least one area will get it during their initial planned 2011 holiday release timeframe.
According to Bloomberg, Sony's production line has slowed due to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, resulting with "several" factories in northern Japan having to close up shop.
While many may be disappointed to hear they will have to wait a while yet for the NGP, it is understandable due to the devastation Japan has had to face. The upside to the delay is the possibility of fewer glitches and issues with the system, due to Sony having more time to review it prior to its world-wide release.
