Indiana Jones, Hans Solo, Facebook game maker? It seems Harrison Ford has decided to take on a new role, as himself, by cutting down on his acting schedule to partake a project with Los Angeles-based game studio Talkie for an upcoming Facebook game.

Ecotopia will be a free-to-play city-building game that requires players to input their real-world efforts to 'be green' in order to gain virtual points to advance in the game. Chris Swain, the man who founded Talkie, is developing Ecotopia with help from Conservation International, a nonprofit global organization which protects and sustains nature for the future benefit of people by gaining and utilizing great partnerships.

Ford will be providing input on how they can incorporate key environmental issues into the gaming experience. Hollywood Reporter quotes Ford, who is vice chairman of Conservation International, as saying, "I'm excited to be involved with Ecotopia because I see it as a great way to engage millions of people in our fight to protect our planet by taking action online and in our daily lives. As we work to address the most fundamental issues facing humanity, I think Ecotopia will help get people involved in a way that is fun, educational, and meaningful."

From the moment you begin with a dirty and uninhabitable environment, you will have to complete in-game missions to gain resources which are then used to develop your utopia. An ongoing story line will complete the game, with new villains introduced periodically, keeping the fight fresh in your battle for a clean environment.

The combination of Harrison Ford, an environmental wake-up call, and Facebook, will more likely than not have Facebookers think twice about their real-life approach to their environment. When you constantly do recycling, switch lights off when they're not used, and other such things in a game that, just like many others on Facebook, tends to have you checking in multiple times a day, the likelihood that these energy- and environment-saving actions will bleed through to real-life actions is high.

Quoted on Hollywood Reporter, Swain has stated, "Ecotopia makes being green fun and adds a dash of social status. We track the real carbon savings created by each act and can tally the total environmental impact made by our players."

Ecotopia is planned for release sometime during Spring of this year.
